The Subclass 408 Temporary Activity Visa – Entertainment Activities stream is designed for individuals looking to work in Australia’s dynamic entertainment industry. This visa allows performers, production crew, and support staff to participate in film, television, and live productions.
What You Can Do With This Visa

- Travel in and out of Australia during your visa stay
- Include eligible family members in your application
Eligible Entertainment Activities
Applicants must be engaged in one of the following categories:
- Working on a government-subsidised film or television production
- Working on a non-subsidised film or TV production
- Performing in live shows or other non-film/TV entertainment
- Working behind-the-scenes in a production role
- Supporting performers or groups (e.g., crew, tour managers)
- Participating in a non-profit entertainment event
- Producing documentaries or commercials for overseas markets
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, you must:
- Have a contract or invitation to participate in entertainment work in Australia
- Be engaged in an eligible entertainment activity
- Meet health and character requirements
- Have a sponsor (for stays over 3 months) or supporter (for stays under 3 months)
Visa Costs and Processing Time:
- Government Visa Fee: $325
- Professional Fees (Hope Migration Group): $1,200–$1,500 per applicant
- Processing Time: Approx. 35 to 50 days
Sponsor or Supporter Obligations
Sponsorship (Over 3 Months Stay)
The sponsor must:
- Be an Australian organisation, state/territory or federal government agency, or a foreign government agency operating in Australia
- Consult relevant unions like the Musicians Union of Australia, Australian Directors Guild, or Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (for certain categories)
- Obtain an Arts Certificate (if required)
- Hold non-profit status, if applicable
- Be approved as a temporary activities sponsor
- Commit to sponsoring the applicant and any accompanying family
- Have no adverse information affecting eligibility
Support (Under 3 Months Stay)
The supporter must:
- Meet the same organisational and union consultation requirements as sponsors
- Provide a formal Letter of Support including:
- Organisation letterhead
- Names of the visa applicant and dependents
- Description of duties and work to be performed
- Dates and locations of the work
