Designated Area Migration Agreements

A Tailored Migration Pathway for Regional Workforce Solutions

Australia’s regional and remote areas often face unique labour shortages that standard migration programs may not fully address. That’s where Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMAs) come in—a strategic partnership between the Australian Government and regional authorities to attract skilled and semi-skilled international workers into areas of need.
At Hope Migration Group, we help employers and skilled migrants navigate DAMA pathways with confidence, clarity, and compliance.

What is a DAMA?

A Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) is a formal agreement between the Australian Government and a Designated Area Representative (DAR)—typically a state, territory, or regional body. The aim is to support economic growth by helping regional employers fill persistent labour gaps that cannot be met by the local workforce.

Key Features of DAMA

Expanded Occupation Access

DAMAs include a wider range of skilled and semi-skilled occupations, many of which are not available under the standard skilled migration lists.

Labour Market Testing (LMT)

Employers must prove genuine and consistent efforts to hire Australian workers before accessing overseas labour under DAMA provisions.

Annual Visa Caps

Each DAMA has a ceiling on the number of workers that can be sponsored annually, ensuring a balance between supporting employment and meeting needs.

Community Integration Support

Participating regions must provide comprehensive settlement support services to help migrant workers integrate into the local workforce and community.

Visa Requirement Concessions

DAMAs offer flexibility on English requirements, age limits, and salaries, making it easier for employers to hire skilled workers suited to local needs.
